Contacts-as-a-Service (CaaS)

The Ultimate Solution

Dr. David Saad – Founder & CEO
May 1st, 2021

The purpose of Contacts-as-a-Service (CaaS) is to automatically and constantly provide high quality and quantity of information about your contacts in order to keep you connected and informed at all times without having to synchronize your apps or devices.

Almost all applications which require contact information such as Address Books, Contact Management (CM), Personal Information Management (PIM), and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) use a centralized database stored on-premise or in the cloud, which is a fundamentally flawed architecture because all such applications are inherently network applications that require a distributed/decentralized database and not a centralized one.

CaaS empowers users to:

  • Build and promote their comprehensive profile
  • Control their privacy
  • Connect with people using virtual cards with different personas
  • Distribute safely their Personal Information to other apps or forms
  • Leverage their social network

Prophyles takes sides with users by advocating their Bill of Rights under CaaS.

Prophyles holds a provisional patent on the architecture of CaaS, its implementation, and its usage. The term “Contacts-as-a-Service (CaaS)” was coined by Dr. David Saad. read more

Data Integrity Use Cases

Synchronization is a Myth

Dr. David Saad – Founder & CEO
May 1st, 2021

One of the main problems in managing Personal Information in general, and Contact Information in particular, is that data integrity is often compromised due to a variety of reasons.

This blog presents two uses cases:

  • Personal Use Case which describes the synchronization problem between two address books.
  • Enterprise Use Case which describes the problem of duplicate contacts in a corporate address book.

These two use cases demonstrate how vulnerable contact information is to changes that occur more often than not, and how utilities that attempt to synchronize apps or devices are ineffective due to the flawed centralized database architecture that current apps rely on.

This blog also shows how new contacts can often and easily fall through the cracks at any point of contact including person-to-person, email, text, call, or facetime. read more

Your Comprehensive Profile

Out of One, Many

Dr. David Saad – Founder & CEO
May 1st, 2021

We have not yet taken full advantage of the peer-to-peer networking and distribution capabilities of the web. For example, why do we keep filling the same forms such as signups, logins, registrations, payments, etc.

A comprehensive profile that allows you to define critical information once, and then use them several times in several places is much better than reinventing the same wheel and refilling the same forms over, and over, and over again. Such an archaic way of operating in this digital world is laborious, tedious, unproductive, error-prone, unsustainable, and unmaintainable.

This blog presents the comprehensive profile that Prophyles offers. It lists some of the key topics in the profile and explains how a profile should be a lifelong work-in-progress from the teenage years all the way to retirement.

This blog also shows how users are rewarded for completing their profile and how they can safely promote and share their profile, or a portion of it, with their contacts. It also talks about data integrity, validation, archiving, and privacy protection. read more

Your Privacy at Stake

Your Personal Data is “Personal”

Dr. David Saad – Founder & CEO
May 1st, 2021

Privacy protection in Prophyles is of paramount importance. Indeed, such priority on privacy is explicitly reflected in our slogan - “it’s personal”.

This blog starts by defining Personal Data and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) as identified by GDPR, CCPA, and CalOPPA. It then lists the main properties associated with Personal Data in Prophyles.

This blog explains how a connection between two users is made through a respective Virtual Card that represents a specific Persona of each user, and how a Smart Contract governs each Virtual Card in our private Blockchain.

Furthermore, this blog makes the case for the need to dynamically customize the privacy settings of some Personal Data based on the evolution of a relationship between two people. read more

Safe Distribution of Personal Information

A Power Shift from Organization to Users

Dr. David Saad – Founder & CEO
May 15th, 2021

Your Personal Information is far more exposed than you think. It is sprinkled everywhere – in business cards (virtual or physical), address books, directories like white pages, CRMs, enterprise applications like HR, mobile apps, resumes, biographies, social media, online forms of all kinds, shopping carts, signups, logins, IDs, licenses, etc.

Any organization that stores Personal Information is vulnerable to hacking, phishing, ID thefts, and online predators preying on the elderly or children. The FBI reported that cybercrimes caused $4.2 billion in losses and damages in 2020 in the US alone.

As a result, organizations are subject to rules and regulations from GDPR, CCPA, and CalOPPA. However, compliance with such regulations is complex and costly.

With all such mayhem, it looks like we’re back to the future with the 1976 film Network: “I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore”.

With its innovative and unique Contact-as-a-Service (CaaS) architecture, Prophyles offers a very effective, elegant, and unique solution that shifts power from the hands of organizations into the hands of users. read more

Safe Universal Login

Stop Them from Tracking and Tracing You

Dr. David Saad – Founder & CEO
May 25th, 2021

From making typing errors to forgetting or losing your Username/Password, logging is annoying but necessary.

Capitalizing on this users’ frustration, social media companies invented Social Login under the pretext of offering convenience and a more pleasant user experience. It turned out that their real motivation is to get hold of yet another means to track/trace you and exploit your Personal Information.

Such phenomenon gave rise to the “Age of Surveillance Capitalism” as Harvard Professor of Business Administration Shoshana Zuboff explains in her monumental book. She exposes a merciless form of capitalism in which not natural resources, but citizens themselves, serve as a new raw material. Sure enough, the advertising model adopted by companies like Google and Facebook makes it amply clear that users are their “product” created to serve advertisers who are their “customers” – and that’s their real motivation.

Prophyles offers a safe Universal Login that may not completely stop such malpractice of tracking and tracing, but at least slow it down or prevent it from exploding further, and thus, putting us at more risk and at their mercy. read more

UX/UI – The Next Generation

Prophyles is introducing the next generation of UX/UI based on glassmorphism and empowered by a highly personalized and intelligent user interface that automatically adapts to users’ habits, preferences, and skills.

Glassmorphism is a new hybrid style that uses the best of prior design styles including skeuomorphism, neumorphism, flat design, material design, and fluent design.

Glassmorphism offers designers the opportunity to design apps that delight users with elegance, beauty, simplicity, efficiency, usability, and accessibility. It contrasts flat with floating shadow, opaque with transparency, and light with dark color.

The Web Evolution

From information explosion to value explosion

Dr. David Saad – Founder & CEO
Sep 26th, 2022

The web took off in 1995. It was essentially a publishing and retrieval network of webpages grouped into websites. Each webpage had a unique address called Uniform Resource Locator (URL). Hyperlinks allowed webpages to be linked forming a network or a web. As information started to disseminate, search engines like Google became critical. Ecommerce followed with the launch of Amazon in 1995, but did not take off until 1999.

In 2005, beyond searching and transacting, people needed to connect, interact, collaborate, and express their opinions with reviews, comments, likes, blogs, and tweets. With the introduction of Cloud Computing combined with Mobile Computing (to a lesser extent), websites started to evolve to become web applications. Social networks like Friendster, Myspace and Facebook, and social media firms like Tweeter, Yelp, Instagram, Flickr, and Reddit, came to the seen... read more

Web3 Leadership Skills

Community builders with shared values

Dr. David Saad – Founder & CEO
Sep 29th, 2022

Compared to Web2 development, Web3 development requires not just different technologies, methodologies, and funding, but also different set of leadership skills. Web3 founders should be:

System Thinkers:
Web2 leaders don’t hesitate to “fake it until they make it”. The emphasis is on agile and speed – move fast and break things. Since “perfect is the enemy of the good”, Web2 leaders build a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and rely on the crowd to test it in piecemeal, quickly, iteratively, and incrementally. Web3 development is the opposite – it is complex, detailed, and must be completely built and fully tested before launch. For example, you can’t launch a half-backed rocket and test it in the air. From the get-go, it will either fly or crash. read more

Web3 is Crossing the Chasm

Slowly but surely

Dr. David Saad – Founder & CEO
Oct 3rd, 2022

In his classic book entitled “Crossing the Chasm” - a textbook in business schools and the bible for tech companies - Geoffrey Moore explains how all new innovations propagate according to a bell curve where most fall into a main chasm between the early market and the mainstream market. Companies who make this hazardous jump are those who cleverly adjust their product and sometimes tweak their business model in order to satisfy the needs of the early majority which are different than the early adopters. For example, databases, open source, and artificial intelligence not only survived by crossing the chasm but thrived. On the other hand, technologies like Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and the Meta Universe (MU) have not yet made this jump. read more

Web3 and the Network Effect

Sliding up in the value chain

Dr. David Saad – Founder & CEO
Oct 6th, 2022

The value chain of software includes three types: utilities like calculator or map, applications like accounting or HR, and networks like address books or social networks. Utilities are the least valuable while networks are the most valuable to users, founders, and investors. This post focuses solely on networks.

There are several network topologies such as star/hub, bus, ring, mesh, tree, hybrid, daisy chain, and point-to-point. Each type of network has different properties such as order, size, density, defensibility, and directionality. Networks have characteristics such as scalability, security, vulnerability, fault tolerance, quality of service, congestion, and pollution. Networks could be personal or public, homogeneous or heterogenous, single-tenant or multi-tenant with several effects such as asymptotic, same-side, cross-side, direct, indirect, negative, or virality. Networks have obstacles like chicken-or-egg and switching cost. Most importantly, networks have a “Network Effect”, which is often confused with virality, implies that every user (node) added to the network increases the value of the network to all other users in the network. read more

Web3 – a Vitamin or a Medicine?

Debunking this myth with FUD – Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt

Dr. David Saad – Founder & CEO
Oct 10th, 2022

A product characterized as a “vitamin” is considered as “nice to have”, while a product qualified as a “medicine” is considered as “must have”. Most investors wrongly believe that a “medicine” is a much better investment than a “vitamin”.

Let’s debunk this myth - the only true and absolute things that we cannot live without are air, water, and food. Everything else is optional. Most products in the great majority of industries, especially the luxury sector, are not “needed”, but “wanted”, or better, “desired”. read more

Back to the Future with Web3

More than just a technical evolution, but a social movement

Dr. David Saad – Founder & CEO
Oct 13th, 2022

During the peak of the cold war in the 70s, a network of computers called the “Internet” was created to protect America from attacks by the Soviet Union. It was thought that a decentralized peer-to-peer network with a mesh topology would be less vulnerable, and thus, safer than a centralized network with a star topology.

Two decades later, the “Web” was introduced to disseminate information across the globe. It consisted of read-only webpages grouped in websites built with open source. It was later coined as Web1. read more

Web3 Virtual Cards

A card for every one of your personas

Dr. David Saad – Founder & CEO
Oct 17th, 2022

Whether meeting new contacts through a call, a text, an email message, or in-person, they often fall through the cracks because we don’t bother to create a card for them in our address book or CRM. But even if we do, here’s how most cards typically look like.

Why such pitiful cards?

Because creating a card by typing or scanning it, is tedious, laborious, boring, frustrating, error prone, incomplete, inaccurate, inconsistent, conflicted, duplicated, isolated, and most of all, disjoint creating a perceived digital connection when actually there is none, causing painful synchronization and data integrity nightmares which have been lingering for decades. read more

A Day in My Digital Life

Dr. David Saad – Founder & CEO
Oct 19th, 2022

I spend about 20% of my day deleting spam emails, blocking phishing texts, and unfriending fake friends who somehow sneaked in.

Then I go to LinkedIn where I start declining connections and removing useless posts in my feed from narcissists who curate other people’s articles, tell you what you already know with vain generalities and banalities, and then self-proclaim themselves as influencers or authorities. It seems like fame based on views, impressions, reactions, or comments on LinkedIn is the new currency to build a reputation and credibility substituting gold old fashion work achievements. read more

What’s Wrong with Logins

Everything!!!

Dr. David Saad – Founder & CEO
Oct 24th, 2022

The User ID & Password Authentication method is currently the most common, and the least expensive, but the least secured. This method has two parameters: User ID and Password. The user ID is typically a unique identifier such as an email address or a phone number, which makes User IDs easily identifiable by hackers. The second parameter, the password, is not any safer because

  • If you make your password easy to remember, then it will be easily hacked, and vice versa, if you make it hard to hack, it will be hard to remember.
  • If you use the same password everywhere, then you will significantly increase your probability to be hacked because your Personal Information would be sprinkled everywhere, but if you use a different password for every website, then you will have difficulty to remember them all. read more

Web2 Created the Surveillance Economy, Web3 Will Kill It

Investor & Board Member

Senior Advisor

Vici Partners

“I invest in early and late stages but most of all, I invest in people.

I sat on the board of a company where David Saad was the founder and CEO. He’s an extremely disciplined, talented, and tenacious executive who always delivers more than promised, on time, and under budget.

Prophyles solves critical contact management problems that people constantly struggle with but have come to accept. David is super competitive and a winner who will make Prophyles a winner as well.

I have been investing in startups for over 30 years. Dozens pitch me every year, but I only select one or two per year to invest in. One investment just became a unicorn. I expect Prophyles will become a unicorn too.”

Mike Muhney

Advisor

Co-Inventor of Act!

Pioneer of Contact Management & CRM

“I am the co-inventor of ACT! which was the software application that was the foundation of Contact Management and CRM. After the acquisition of Act! by Symantec, I founded several ventures specialized in Contact Management, Relationships Management, and CRM.

As one of the pioneers and prominent authorities in this field, I have a broad and deep understanding of the problems, the needs, and the trend in this market. Specifically, I recognize that current solutions from low-end address books to high-end CRMs, are all based on a centralized database that creates a silo, which is the culprit of poor data (i.e., incomplete, incorrect, unreliable, outdated, redundant, etc.).

Prophyles’ decentralized and distributed database puts it on a different pedestal – it is indeed a natural, ultimate, and elegant solution to these big problems. Furthermore, with Web3 being around the corner, the introduction of Prophyles with its peer-to-peer network and its privacy protection through its blockchain is so ever timely, not to mention super clever.”

Shahin Hatamian

Investor

SVP, Product Management & Strategy

Mitchell International

“I am an SVP of Product Management for a multi-billion-dollar software company. I was connected with David (founder of Prophyles) on LinkedIn through several mutual contacts. When he reached out to discuss the company, I immediately became interested in his vision of solving the two key problems of disparate and out of sync contacts and filling out forms.

While Prophyles’ product vision is more expansive, I could relate to these two real-world problems that I find cumbersome on a daily basis. Once I was sold on the “what”, I turned my due diligence to the “who” and the “how”.

I vetted David’s background and experience through our mutual connections and based on several rounds of conversations with him. Feeling comfortable and confident about his experience and personality, I then began digging into his execution plan. As a senior leader of software industry with 25 years of product development experience, I looked extensively into his financial and products plans. I was impressed by his methodical and detailed-oriented execution plan and therefore convinced Prophyles was the right investment vehicle for my portfolio.”

Michael Richman

Investor

COO

Academy, Inc.

“For an entrepreneur like myself, my time is an extremely valuable commodity. I talk to dozens of people per day and trying to capture all of their information in one place is like trying to drink water out of a fire hose.

Between partial information given, trying to fill it in through google searches, and duplicates, I needed a solution that could glean all the information into one location.

That is why Prophyles is such an asset. It integrates in my social network and contacts to create a seamless database for me to leverage my network effectively.”

Linda Purl

Investor

Hollywood Actress & Singer

“As an actress and a singer, the tech world is quite foreign to me. However, I knew that many of my colleagues in Hollywood have done quite well by investing in tech startups. Since I wanted to diversify my investment portfolio, I reached out to one of my close friends, Lance Stuart, who turned out to be one of Prophyles’ main investors. Lance introduced me to David Saad who gave me his pitch and a demo. Even though I was quite impressed, I did not rely solely on Lance’s recommendation or David’s pitch. Instead, I decided to do a thorough due diligence by checking documents, references, advice from colleagues, etc.

Throughout the process, David was very professional and reliable. What was also comforting, how informative and transparent David has been after I invested. For instance, he issued two newsletters and an annual report detailing the progress, achievements, and challenges that the company run into. Being in the entertainment industry, I know too well about hard work, dedication, and most of all, rejection. For me, it was never about fame or riches, but rather it has always been about work ethics and the love of the craft. If it’s not a labor of love, it is simply too hard to make it in the entertainment industry, and I imagine the same in the tech world. David is a refreshing reminder that there is no shortcut for success. While there is no guarantee either, he certainly has what it takes.”

Takeshi Nobuhara

Investor

Co-Founder & Managing Director

EXA Innovation Studio, Inc.

“I have been an angel investor for many years. While some of my criteria change such as industry and stage, core criteria never change such as the quality of the founders along with their ability to execute, the size of the market, and the uniqueness/defensibility of the product relative to competitors.

Prophyles checked all the boxes – David, their founder, is experienced, transparent, dedicated, and mature entrepreneur with couple of exits, their execution plan with their go-to-market strategy were detailed and realistic in terms of addressing the challenges that they face such as the network effect and the chick-n-egg problems, the market is huge and growing, and their IP is solid.

I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with the remarkably talented team of dedicated and committed people at Prophyles.”

Raymond Wong

Investor

Board of Director

Social Venture Partners Japan

“I got to know Prophyles as I was seeking interesting investment opportunities in startups. I was immediately inspired by the potential of what Prophyles can bring to the world in terms of safer privacy and stronger meaningful connectivity, which will enable more inclusive and equitable community and society.

Also, what was refreshingly noticeable is the convenience and the instant gratification that Prophyles offers when connecting with new people but as well as connections become relationships.

Needless to say, that I was quite impressed by their technology and the strength of their IP which does offer the company an obstacle to entry to competitors, at least for a while.”

Mike Thoeresz

Investor

Tennis Director

Fig Garden Swim & Racquet Club

“In my capacity as a Director of Tennis I interact with thousands of club members, clients, tournament participants, and local tennis players. It is critical that my address book is up to date when promoting, organizing, and running events. People change jobs, emails, addresses, and contact information all the time--it's imperative that these individuals don't "fall through the cracks" of an obsolete contact management system.

After trying few address books, including cloud-based ones, my problems weren’t solved. In fact, they got worse, especially in trying to synchronize my old address book with whatever latest one I tried.

Prophyles is the right solution for ensuring that my contacts are up to date at all times. Having said that, the most influential reason that made me invest in Prophyles was David – I’ve known him for over a decade - his work ethics, commitment, and passion are second to none. As an athlete myself, I know that such discipline stems out of his training in becoming a world-class athlete and an Olympian.”

Managing contacts is essential and fundamental to billions of people and millions of companies. Yet, it’s unbelievably broken for decades.

Your address book and CRM always seem to be missing data, out of synch, or outdated; your personal information is misused, abused, and exploited at your expense; your privacy is shattered; your forms are annoying; and your social network is barely existing.

Many tried to fix Contact Management but failed. Prophyles will be fixing it once and for all by reinventing it with Contacts-as-a-Service (CaaS).

Why is it important to you?!! Because this time, it’s personal.

Here’s what we, at Prophyles, have accomplished so far:

We raised $570,000 from angels, developed a comprehensive prototype, filed a provisional patent with 42 claims, established a relationship with Melissa Data to get 300 million profiles prior to launch in order to ignite adoption, produced several videos, published several blogs, and created a comprehensive digital footprint. That’s a lot with very little. That’s a very efficient use of capital.
